Meet Atlantis, the newest iPelic

Black Friday was a hit! Named my new iPad after the the Lost City of Atlantis so that when I plug it in, sync it, and click cancel, I can say that I stopped Atlantis from 'sinking' :)

MY HEART I OFFER TO YOU LORD, PROMPTLY AND SINCERELY

MY HEART I OFFER TO YOU LORD, PROMPTLY AND SINCERELY

This is the tagline of Calvin College, where we recently stayed to attend a Switchfoot concert. The concert was incredible, and these ten simple words got me thinking.

Promptly and sincerely. So often in our Christian walk we offer our heart to the Lord in one way but not the other. But it’s not the type of offering He desires unless it is both Prompt and Sincere.

Promptly means right now and without hesitation. Sincerity requires the offering of a whole heart, every part, through and through. It’s easy to offer our hearts to the Lord promptly but not sincerely. “Here Lord, take my heart, right now, every part of it except (fill in the blank) and (fill in the blank) and (fill in the blank).” Maybe you only leave out one part, maybe thirty parts, maybe you leave out every part except one part, but the result is the same - it is a prompt but insincere offering.

The alternative, which we often do as well, is to offer our hearts to the Lord sincerely but not promptly. “Here Lord, take every part of me, and I mean every part, here I am. You can have my heart.... tomorrow.” We have good intentions to give Him our all, but maybe we’re not quite ready to let go of everything just yet.

But you can’t have a true, pleasing offering unless it is both Prompt and Sincere. The heart that pleases the Lord is the heart that says “Here I am Lord, all of me, every part, you can have me now.” God doesn't ask you to be ready for surrender, he promises blessings if we fall back into the unknown. God doesn't ask for just part of you, He wants a Prompt and Sincere offering of your heart. As Switchfoot might say, “I want you, all or nothing at all.”

Couple photos from Nationals 2014

This photo kinda sums up our Silent Football games at Bible Quiz Nationals (though it appears I am showing my teeth and have not yet been called on).

Fading West EP

Little things can totally make my day - I was at family christian the other day and saw one copy of the Fading West EP by Switchfoot (back when the album came out, the EP was free with the prebuy). The EP has a song on it that's not on the album. I thought I'd take it up to the register to see how much it was - it rang up as 1 cent  best deal ever!Photo: Little things can totally make my day - I was at family christian today and saw one copy of the Fading West EP by Switchfoot (back when the album came out, the EP was free with the prebuy). Part Two of Switchfoot Can Be Related to Anything

To read the original post, visit: http://mollyap.blogspot.com/2014/04/switchfoot-can-be-related-to-anything.html?m=1

Here are my responses to the challenges you guys have given me. Comment more challenges on this post! (I'm still working on Stacking Toys Mrs. H)

Convict: line from I Turn Everything Over - "The evidence convicts the hollow man". I really like this song, but I feel like they need to remix it. Or maybe I will :)

Fire escape: I'm going to resist the urge just to quote Dare You To Move, "Where can you go to escape from yourself," and noting that they have a song called On Fire. But, my actual connection is the fact that when you're running down a fire escape you gotta switch feet every other step or you'll look like a one footed broken legged Easter bunny.

Grand Canyon: last year on November 3rd Switchfoot had a concert at Grand Canyon University.

Tigers: Switchfoot sells a Tshirt called the Tiger Tee - https://www.switchfoot.com/switchfoot/product/?prodID=2572. If you bought more than one, you'd have Tigers!!

Circumference of an ellipse: to calculate the circumference of an ellipse, you can use the following equation:

perimeter formula
As it says online: "The terms continue on infinitely, and unfortunately you must calculate a lot of terms to get a reasonably close answer." In the song Gone, Switchfoot speaks to this: "We are not infinite". He's trying to point out that we could never calculate the exact circumference because it would require an infinite amount of time. However, once you reach Heaven, if that's what you so desire to do, you can calculate it (be sure to email me the result).

5 LEDs: in this video, the LED screen uses at least 5 LEDs to make the image on the screen: http://youtu.be/GUqzS7ElDXk.
Step One: watch video
Step Two: While you're watching, pretend you're at the concert.
Step Three: pretend I'm there too
Step Four: when the video ends, go buy two tickets to a Switchfoot concert
Step Five: buy plane tickets to get there
Step Six: email me the date and time
Step Seven: I'll see you there! This will be fun!

the Hexadecimal color #663300:

This photograph of switchfoot has a color theme similar to the aforementioned hexadecimal color:

#663300 color image

The square root of 11: is 3.316 or round up to 3.32. If you figure out how long 3.32 minutes is, it's 3:19 minutes. Two notable Switchfoot songs are this long: Let It Out and Meant To Live.

Switchfoot can be related to anything...

Conversation on Facebook that inspired this post:

Molly:
Since this week we're talking about religion [in sociology club], I thought I would add a nice description of religion, written by our friends in switchfoot:
What you say is your religion
How you say it's your religion
Who you love is your religion
How you love is your religion
All your science, your religion
All your hatred, your religion
All your wars are your religion
Every breath is your religion yeah
-Switchfoot, The World You Want (if you haven't heard the song, listen to it! Prob one of my favorite songs!)

Chris (another person in Sociology):
You've related Switchfoot to sociology 3 times now, you sure they didn't get song ideas from this book?? haha

Molly: Haha not sure... That would be pretty epic to be reading the book that inspired Fading West! Though I may just be able to relate Switchfoot to anything... Lol. Hey Julianne Nicole - yes, you can take me up on that statement above "I may be able to relate switchfoot to anything"

And so it began. Here is a list of the challenges so far (and Molly's responses)

Apple pie: this one might be a bit of a stretch. But, as we all know, Switchfoot works with the company Apple to sell their music, stream their album on First Play, and sell their new movie. They even do some of these activities on March 14, aka Pi(e) day, and March of 2014, aka Pi(e) month.

Star Wars: in Star Wars the key phrase is May The Force Be With You. On Jesusfreakhideout, a Christian music website, they quote: "Switchfoot truly is a force to be reckoned with. Album after album they give listeners quality music ". As we can see, Switchfoot is obviously the Force being referred to in Star Wars, because as we all know, the creator of Star Wars was a huge Jon foreman fan*. He was obviously wishing to everyone that the force (switchfoot) would be with them, because this would mean they were at a switchfoot concert and not only would be very happy, but would learn about Jesus!

Mount Rushmore: legend has it that Jon Foreman and his Switchfoot buddies were on a road trip to the center of the United States. The other guys in the band were super excited about seeing Mount Rushmore, but Jon had seen it many times before. As they gazed in heartfelt wonder, he penned the chorus of the song Connect With The Spine, which says "I'm sick of the faces, the scene, and the light". He was referring to the fact that he had seen these stone faces so many times and he was tired of the same old experience again. He would rather go visit Molly in Michigan. Plus, he was sick of the 'light', referring to the blinding headlights of the car directly in front of him. This legend has been verified on numerous occasions with Jon Foreman.*

*this may or may not be true.

Facebook: they use Facebook for a large number of things, including promoting their music, sharing photos from the road, and advertising their new film, Fading West.

Mice: (this was an easy one!) lyrics from Meant To Live: "Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries"

Extremely short comments: if you look on sf's FB page, you'll notice that when they share photos from the road, they caption the photos with extremely short comments about where they were taken and by whom.

Cream cheese: on their merch website, sf sells a cream colored hat: http://www.switchfoot.com/switchfoot/product/?catID=.... I bet if you payed them enough they would send you some cheese with the purchase of the hat!

Bell bottoms: in an interview, Chad of Switchfoot answers the question: What activity or group were you involved with in high school that might surprise people today?
"I won my high school's annual "air-band" contest dancing and lip synching to a Sly and the Family Stone song called "Chicken". I wore an afro wig and bell bottoms, I looked awesome."

Ceiling fans: online, a website sells ceiling fans and gives the option to buy a switch to operate it with your foot. (Couldn't resist:)

Comment more ideas! I'm having fun with this :)
